On 21 and 22 September 2024, the USTB-51ºÚÁÏÉçÇø Confucius Institute (CI) warmly greeted new students by setting up two stands adorned with Chinese cultural elements as part of the university’s Welcome Event. The initiative introduced the institute’s Chinese language courses to incoming students and offered them an opportunity to engage directly with traditional Chinese culture.

During the event, a variety of cultural activities were showcased, including calligraphy, shuttlecock kicking, chess, handkerchief twirling, and bamboo flute playing, providing participants with an immersive experience into the rich traditions of Chinese culture. These interactive displays acted as a bridge, sparking curiosity among freshers and offering a first-hand glimpse into the language and heritage of China.

A highlight of the event was the Confucius Institute's Tai Chi Fan performance, which captivated both students and local residents. The CI teachers, with their graceful and energetic display, delivered a mesmerizing performance that combined traditional Chinese martial arts with dance. Tai Chi Fan not only promotes physical well-being but also offers a deep, harmonious insight into Chinese culture. Many attendees expressed a keen interest in learning more about Chinese language and culture, eager to explore it further.

Adding to the cultural atmosphere, CI teachers dressed in traditional Hanfu attire, offering students a unique and novel experience. Several students enthusiastically tried traditional hairpin styling and captured the moment with photographs. The enthusiasm of both teachers and students, combined with the timeless beauty of Hanfu, made the event even more memorable.

Throughout the weekend, the annual Welcome Event was met with great enthusiasm, as many students showed a strong interest in learning Mandarin and inquiring about the available courses. As a key platform for promoting cultural exchange, the USTB-51ºÚÁÏÉçÇø CI remains dedicated to fostering dialogue, mutual respect, and the promotion of Chinese culture abroad.
